Strangeness Enhancement in Heavy Ion Collisions
نویسنده
چکیده
The enhancement of strange particle production observed in nucleus-nucleus collisions at CERN is explained by the combined effect of the increase in the relative number of strings containing strange constitutents at the ends, and the final state interaction of co-moving secondaries : π +N → K + Λ/Σ. Correlating Strangeness Enhancement and J/ψ Suppression in Heavy Ion Collisions at √ S Nn = 17.2 Gev
It is shown that the strangeness enhancement and the J/ψ anomalous suppression patterns observed in heavy ion collisions at top SPS energy, √ sNN = 17.2 GeV, exhibit an interesting correlation if studied as a function of the transverse size of the interaction region. The onset of both phenomena seems to occur when the size exceeds ≈ 4 fm. Strangeness enhancement is defined in terms of the stran...
متن کاملStrangeness and Antibaryon Production in Heavy-Ion Collisions
We review the experimental results on strangeness and antibaryon production in heavy-ion collisions at the AGS and SPS. We argue that the observed enhancement in kaon production at the AGS is consistent with hadronic description, while the multistrange baryon and antibaryon results at the SPS may need physics beyond hadronic nature. We call the need for measurements of low energy antilambda-pro...

متن کاملSTAR Results on Strangeness Production at RHIC energies
Strangeness measurement at RHIC energies constitutes one of the favorite theme of the STAR Collaboration. Besides the fact that strangeness enhancement has been proposed as a quark gluon plasma signature, its production provides various and relevant information about the collision evolution and especially on the hadronization process. The investigation of short-lived strange particles as well a...
متن کامل0 Strangeness Enhancement in Heavy Ion Collisions – Evidence for Quark - Gluon - Matter ? ∗
The centrality dependence of (multi-)strange hadron abundances is studied for Pb(158AGeV)Pb reactions and compared to p(158GeV)Pb collisions. The microscopic transport model UrQMD is used for this analysis. The predicted Λ/π−, Ξ−/π− and Ω−/π− ratios are enhanced due to rescattering in central Pb-Pb collisions as compared to peripheral Pb-Pb or p-Pb collisions. However, the enhancement is substa...
متن کاملQuark Number Susceptibilities & The Wróblewski Parameter
The Wróblewski parameter is a convenient indicator of strangeness production and can be employed to monitor a signal of quark-gluon plasma production : enhancement of strangeness production. It has been shown to be about a factor two higher in heavy ion collisions than in hadronic collisions. Using a method proposed by us earlier, we obtained lattice QCD results for the Wróblewski parameter fro...
